Red Sox

Red Sox Logo2The Red Sox are one of the most storied franchises in Major League baseball. It’s been a blast to be a member of Red Sox Nation over the past eight years. With two World Series wins since 2004, we are flying high! But, to really appreciate the sweet taste of recent success, you’ve got to understand the profound angst fans felt for decades of late summer days, and chilly fall evenings when the Sox simply swooned.

 

Here’s a brief Red Sox timeline to give you a sense of the highs and lows over the last century.

1901 The team was established in Boston as part of the American League.
1903 World Series #1
1908 The Red Sox became the official team name.
1912 Fenway Park Opens!
  World Series #2
1915 World Series #3
1916 World Series #4
1918 World Series #5
1919 Babe Ruth is sold to the New York Yankees – and the “Curse of the Babe” begins
1941 Ted Williams his .406 for the entire season.
1960 Ted Williams retires – hits a homerun in his final at bat
1961 Carl Yazstremski (Yaz) replaces Ted Williams
1967 “The Impossible Dream Season” – Yaz wins the Triple Crown – The Red Sox go to the World Series, losing in 7 games to the St. Louis Cardinals – Tony Conigliaro is struck in the face by a fastball, and misses the entire 1968 season.
1975 Red Sox lose to the Cincinatti Reds in the World Series
1978 In a one-game playoof New York Yankees lyer Bucky dent hits a homerun to help propel the Yankees over the Sox in a one-game playoff for the the American League Pennant.
1986 The Red Sox lose the World Series to the New York Mets. Bill Buckner infamously allows a slow ground ball hit from Mookie Wilson to roll through his legs at first base in Game 6.
2003 The red Sox hire Theo Epstein as General Manager
2004 The Red Sox Win the World Series in a 4-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals!
2007 The Red Sox win the World Series, again, in a 4-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies!
