Did You See the Sox Game? Red Sox Drop Another to the Orioles

Here at Pink Hat Sports, we know that even the most die-hard fans have lives outside of sports. No one can see every game.

So if you missed yesterday’s Red Sox game, here’s what you’ll want to know before you head off to Sunday dinner with the in-laws.

The Game: Baltimore Orioles v. Boston Red Sox

The Score: Red Sox: 2, Orioles: 8

The Recap: Aaron Cook started for the Sox, and just did not have luck on his side. He threw a bad pitch, and as a result had to cover home plate to prevent Orioles Chris Davis from scoring. Chris Davis’ cleats collided with Cook’s shin with nasty results. Cook was able to stay in the game after being treated in the clubhouse, but he simply couldn’t last. He went on to give up 4 runs in the 3rd inning, and then he left the game for good. The Sox and Cook simply could not recover, and went on to lose 8-4.

Beyond the Score: This was the Sox fourth straight loss, continuing their losing record at home this year (4-9). One bright spot in the Red Sox lineup has been young Will Middlebrooks. He didn’t play yesterday, but it looks like he’ll be back today. Here’s hoping the between Middlebrooks, and today’s pitcher, Clay Buchholz, the Sox can prevent a sweep by the Orioles at home.

Did you See the Sox Game? Red Sox Lose to Orioles after 13 Long Innings

Here at Pink Hat Sports, we know that even the most die-hard fans have lives outside of sports. No one can see every game.

So if you missed last night’s Red Sox game, here’s what you’ll want to know before you head off to your kid’s soccer game today.

The Game: Baltimore Orioles v. Boston Red Sox

The Score: Red Sox: 4, Orioles: 6

The Recap: John Lester started for the Sox, and pitched well, not great for the first 5 innings. When he left the game the Sox were ahead, 4-3. Padilla came in as the relief pitcher and couldn’t hold onto the lead, giving up a run. The game remained tied until the top of the 13th inning, when the Orioles’ Chris Davis drove in the go-ahead run. Unfortunately, the Sox just couldn’t get it done tonight.

Beyond the Score: This  was the Sox longest game of the year to date, at more than 4 1/2 hours. Middlebrooks continued to demonstrate his abilities in the Majors, with a double off the Green Monster in the 4th inning. The Sox have now lost 3 in a row, and sit at the bottom of the AL East standings. Hopefully they can recover tomorrow, when Aaron Cook makes his debut appearance as a starting pitcher for Boston.

Heading to Fenway This Weekend? The Orioles Are Coming to Beantown

A lot is riding on the Sox series against the Baltimore Orioles this weekend. Friday marks the beginning of a 20-game, non-stop stretch for the Sox. To do well this year, they’ll have to reverse their current trend – losing at home.

If you’re lucky enough to make it to Fenway this weekend, dress for the cold, raw drizzle that’s bound to drive some fans away. Whether you’re watching the game from the bleachers or the Cask ‘n Flagon, here a bit of what Sox fans will be debating over their pints of lager.

1) Have the Orioles become “The Team to Beat”?
Historically, Baltimore has been known the sit comfortably at the bottom of their division throughout the season, and a series against the Birds would bode well for Red Sox Nation. But this year could be different. Consider this: The Red Sox ended their abysmal 2011 collapse by losing to the Orioles on the last day of the season. That’s gotta leave a bad taste in your mouth. Now, in a bizzaro-world scenario, the Orioles have had a strong start in 2012, with a 14-8 record right now, and some uncharacteristically good pitching. This could be trouble for the BoSox.

2) Is Youk really injured, like REALLY injured? Our starting third baseman is currently on the 15-Disabled List with a back injury. Every Red Sox analyst is currently debating the severity of this injury, and what it might mean in the long-term.

Will Middlebrooks

3) In the meantimeWill Middlebrooks was brought up from Pawtucket on Wednesday to fill the third Base role. The 23-year old did a decent job in his major league debut. All eyes will be on him to see if he can churn out some runs, or if Wednesday was just a case of “beginner’s luck”.

Did You See the Game? – A’s Hold On to Beat the Red Sox at Fenway

Here at Pink Hat Sports, we know that even the most die-hard fans have lives outside of sports. No one can see every game.

So if you missed last night’s Red Sox game, here’s what you’ll want to know before you hit the water cooler today.

The Game: Oakland A’s v. Boston Red Sox

The Score: Red Sox: 2, A’s: 4

The Recap: Daniel Bard started for the Sox, and pitched well for the first 5 innings, giving up only 4 hits and 1 run. His pitching fell apart in the 6th inning though, when the A’s scored 3 more runs. The Sox tried to rally for a comeback, but just couldn’t get it done.

Beyond the Score: We saw two Red Sox players have great debuts tonight. Will Middlebrooks started at 3rd base, and got his first Major League hit tonight. Clayton Mortenson made his first appearance at Fenway as a relief pitcher, and did a stellar job from the mound. He struck out 6 batters in 3 innings. As Dan Duquette, Jr notes perhaps it’s “Beginner’s Luck“. However, the Sox bullpen could use all the luck it can find right now!
